About Borders Ceremonies
Milqueya at Borders Ceremonies is part of Agnostic Celebrants Scotland. A huge part of the joy of choosing a celebrant is having the freedom and flexibility that a celebrant led ceremony offers. Whilst religious or humanist ceremonies might be right for some couples, choosing a celebrant led ceremony with Borders Ceremonies means yours is entirely personalised. You aren't confined to a script, and so Milqueya can help you craft a ceremony which truly reflects your unique love story.
Milqueya Collin - aka, Border Ceremonies
I had the pleasure of meeting Milqueya from Borders Ceremonies at one of the first weddings I shot back home in the Scottish Borders. We both knew of each other from living in a wee small fishing town in the Borders (I have since moved away, but home is home!). However I had never known Milqueya in a professional capacity as we had never worked together. Well - what a wee pleasure it was when I finally got to shoot a wedding ceremony conducted by her!! Not only is a ceremony held by Border Ceremonies professional and super friendly - she brings a beautiful personal touch to her ceremonies and goes above and beyond even once her call of duty finishes, always doing her best to help other vendors and the couple wherever she can. A true gem!
Our very first time working together was at a wedding in Queensferry, held in the gorgeous Doubletree by Hilton hotel, overlooking the Queensferry crossing. The ceremony was beautiful curated - an ode to those no longer with us and the couples incredibly beautiful love story. It was delivered with honest care and attention to detail, with a lovely wee sprinkle of humour throughout, it had me teary eyed at all the right places!
Our second time working together was at a gorgeous intimate wedding at The Boathouse at Paxton House, where we had such great fun. This time the couple also integrated a surprise naming ceremony for their wee boy, which Milqueya seamlessly integrated into the ceremony without it feeling clunky or drawn out. Overall another perfectly perfect ceremony tailored to the couple and their family. Afterwards, she done her best to help me get the perfect shots for the couple down by the river, fluffing the dress and holding the veil. Then, as it was a shorter and more intimate day - we had some fun on Paxton's rope swing, a staple in anyone's childhood growing up on the Border. You are never too old to play!
Overall, as a fellow vendor, but also as a person - its a joy getting to work alongside Milqueya, and Borders Ceremonies has become an easy recommendation for couples looking for their perfect celebrant within the Scottish Borders and afar. Check out below for some Q&A and some pictures of us working together!
Q&A
I asked Milqueya to answer some of the all important questions I thought my couples might want to know
- How long have you been a celebrant?
I started training during the pandemic - it was something i had always planned to do and the lockdown gave me the ideal opportunity to train.
- What made you want to become a celebrant?
I think everyone should celebrate life at any given opportunity. We should create memories when ever we can. I love being there to support people in celebrating their way without compromising.
- What's your favourite event to be part of?
I like it all, but you can not beat a wedding. They are just magical watching love come together!
- How would a couple go about enquring with you?
Couples can book an no obligation video chat with me via my website, I love to chat! (website linked above)
- How far on average would you say couples should book in advance?
I have bookings for 2026, its never too early. Equally I have had couples book with only 6 weeks to go, so there is no set rule. However you do need a minimum of 28 days to inform your local registrar and to obtain the legal paper work. I always recommend meeting a few celebrants to ensure you get the best suited person to share your story too!
