Looking for your perfect hairpiece for your wedding day? Look no further than Pamela Nimmo - Bespoke Hair Accessories.
Based near Falkirk and stunningly talented and creative at making individually created hairpieces for her brides and wedding guests alike, I had the privilege of speaking to Pamela and finding out more about her business of creating stunning hair accessories. I got to see some of her upcoming creations and I took the opportunity to ask her some of the most frequently asked questions about getting a bespoke hairpiece made.
Some of Pamela's Beautiful Work
Let's start off by saying how incredibly down to earth Pamela is. As soon as I met her I found her so easy to chat to and I couldn't believe how humble she was about the not so small fact that she creates each piece by hand. I asked her how long it takes to make her accessories and she told me it can take her multiple days of working up to 6 hours at a time hand crafting and adding each bead separately. I even had the chance to watch her work on a piece for one of her brides and she is the ultimate perfectionist. She works tirelessly to ensure her accessories are flawless for taking centre stage at any event.
As a master of all things beauty and creativity related, she is not only an incredibly talented maker of wedding hairpieces, she is also a seriously talented nail tech and makeup artist (check out Pamela Nimmo Nails for your wedding nails ladies, but that's a blog for another day!) She creates her pieces in a lovely little home office where she not only keeps all her beading and materials but her array of nail artistry and makeup tools too! It is adorned in flowers and beautiful furnishings and littered with completed hairpieces waiting to go to their forever homes. Pamela is clearly a jack of many trades in the wedding world and is a true artist in all she does.
The Face Behind the Talent. Pamela Wearing One of Her Own Fabulous Pieces
I asked Pamela some questions about her business and the bespoke accessories she creates...
- Are all your accessories bespoke or do you have some pre-made available to buy?
"Mostly all hairpieces are bespoke. I do have a couple of hairpieces ready made available to buy if they suit what a customer is looking for.
- What is the booking process for someone looking to order a hairpiece from you?
"The first initial chat with each customer is always what they are looking for in their hairpiece and what occasion it is for. For example mother of the bride, the bride herself or a wedding guest. We chat about what they will be wearing, what kind of style it is, and what they hope to have their hair like etc so that I get an idea what the hairpiece will look like. Once we have discussed this and spoken about budget, I give them and idea of what types of hairpiece would suit. Each hairpiece is completely tailor made to suit each customer."
- How much does one of your bespoke pieces cost?
"The cost of hairpieces will vary depending on the materials I use and the size of the piece. During the initial consultation I always ask each individual their budget so I know what I'm working with and what I can offer them. Typically, the most requested hairpiece is the beaded headband - and this starts from £80. Hair Vines and Combs also start at this price however Crinoline Fascinators start from £150 due to the time it takes to create and the extra materials needed."
- Do you take a deposit in order to make your hairpieces?
"Yes, I always ask for a 50% deposit in order to ensure I can order materials without the risk of them going unused'
- How long should customers usually expect to wait for their bespoke hairpiece once it is ordered?
" I usually ask for at least 8 weeks notice for a hairpiece. As materials and products may need to be ordered and each item is bespoke, each hairpiece can take a while to create. I do this whilst juggling 3 kids and working as a nail artist. To make sure I am able to devote the time to creating perfect pieces, I always ask for as much notice as possible.
- How do your hairpieces fasten to the hair? Any hints or tips for placement?
"My hairpieces all fasten into the hair differently. Some hairpieces I make are on a comb, which slides into your hair really easily. I also make a hair vine style hairpiece which is a more wrap around style, and this has little loops for hair grips to clip into. I also make some on a headband and these also need to use hair grips to secure the hairpiece in place as they can be quite heavy with all the beadwork. For bridal pieces I usually recommend speaking with your wedding stylist to place it during styling to ensure it is secured well.
- Which of your hairpieces is the favourite out of all the ones you have made?
"The favourite hairpiece I have made so far has to be a headband style fascinator I made for a mother of the bride. It was made with nude crinoline material and we finished it with gunmetal and gold beading and pearls - it was just simply stunning with her outfit." (You can see Pamela's fav in the cover photo of the blog)
- How did you learn to create such stunning pieces?
"A few years ago I was attending a family wedding and couldn't find any hairpieces I liked. I don't normally wear fascinators as I personally don't think I suit them so I was looking for a wee hairpiece. I knew I wanted something with beading and pearls and so I had a wee search online and found one I loved. Unfortunately it was a bit too far out of my budget.
I've always been a pretty creative person and love to learn new things so after initially being downhearted and sulking for a while about not getting the hairpiece I loved I thought to myself, 'I'm sure I could make that!' I searched online for information about the best materials to use and I bought the wire, beading and pearls as well as some tools... and that's how it all started!
It quickly became my favourite hobby - once my kids were in bed I started off just sitting on the couch with the TV on making hairpieces. I really enjoyed it and so decided to start selling some of them. Eventually people started asking me for bespoke designs and I started taking orders, since then I haven't looked back! I have made hairpieces for brides, mother of brides as well as wedding guests. I absolutely love seeing pictures of my customers wearing their pieces and seeing how it all comes together with their outfits. I'm so glad I made the decision to start taking my hobby to the next level and I honestly can't believe I get to create such beautiful hair accessories for people to enjoy"
